Auto check dispay & radio

A co-worker of mine has a 94 100CS and her auto check display doesn't
show the radio station, but will illuminate when the other check items
come on, e.g., low on fuel indicator.  Her shop said there was something
with the radio since the auto check display works. There are no squiggly
lines or on/off of the display like I have seen in the past and usually
indicates a bad auto check display unit. Anybody agree with the radio
diagnosis? If that's the case, is the only redemy to swap out radios
from the dealer? Appreciate any feedback
