Why is Europe so fond of diesels?

Longevity, fuel price, mileage, torque, politically correct? And of
course, because of the diesel craze the resale value is higher on the
diesel than similar gas vehicle. You must not put the inferiour

a whole 'nother breed. The 5.7DX couldnt go 10,000 miles without
replaceing head gaskets. The modern diesel technology really boosted
speed after Audi invented the TDI technology (yes it was Audi not VW)

I am a bit diesel crazy myself, I have thought of building a 4kq with
the 140 hp I-5 2.5 TDI from the Audi A6. This engine can easily be
chipped to 170 hp and has the torque of a 6 liter V8. It would still get
40+ mpg. Maybe I'll put this engine in the Cabrio?
