Dear Audifans,
While driving my 87 Audi 5000 CS, the hydraulic pump belt tore, jambed the
crank pulley and the engine jumped timing...bending the valves. I finally
got around to taking the head off with the turbo and exhaust manifold
attached. It looks to me like I need sodium filled valves, valve guides, a
missing stud for the exhaust manfold, and a gasket kit. Should I replace the
lifters? They are beginning to tap...car has 170,000 miles. I saw a post
about buying new head bolts and perhaps replacing the exhaust manifold with
stainless steel studs? Is this necessary? ...I got two daughters in college.
Any other BTDT will be appreciated before I put this back together...I'm
afraid I will miss something important. Oh, where can I rent a valve spring
compressor tool? This list has given me the courage to tackle this job and
keep my Audi. Many thanks guys, Larry
I am thinking about replacing the timing belt, water pump, O-ring and
adjustment pulley.
can I rent a valve spring compressor tool and get the parts? I damaged one
head bolt...
