In Europe most fitters use a two-part impact adhesive made by Araldite.

It can be dissolved in boiling water.  The ideal tool is a steam
wallpaper stripper - I don't know if these are readily available in the
USA.  It's a large box containing an electric kettle element, with a
hose feeding a pad-like device that you place over wallpaper you wish
to annihilate.

Pull the hose off the pad and wave it around the glue.  Start slowly
and at a distance to spread the strain.
