oil filters - here's a list

So, folks, what's the general thought here?  Use the cheaper filter
"because it fits" or the one Audi specifies?  I know how I feel about it
until I know what the difference actually is... like, maybe, they were
out of 056 115 561 G for a few years, or spilled beer on the pallet, or
something equally silly.
