Thinking of buying a 96 A4?

I don't think it has been resolved. The squeaky control arm
issue has cropped up in '99s, even.

Dont.  Buy a 98 or later instead.
96 models have poor quality front suspension links. It has 4 per side.
The links squeak as hell and very very annoying.  You dont hear it when
you're driving the car but more pronounced when the car is moving slow like
taking off or stopping.
And I dont have to remind you how expen$$$ive the parts are.  The 'best' way
to fix it is to replace all four links at once instead of just the one
that's defective coz the other ones follow suit.
I was advised that Audi has rectified this on the newer models.
