Nothing personal as I'm sure you really don't think this way but it's that
kind of (non)thinking that causes the problems with firearms. If you
really think that there mere presence of a firearm would cause you to use
it at every opportunity, I am glad you don't carry a firearm. But, of
course, you really don't feel that way because you don't pull out your
pocket knife or grab the steak knife off the restaurant table and stab
people at every opportunity. And I doubt you run people over in your car
with a minimum of provocation either. If it were as simple as you opine,
cops and soldiers would be the biggest mass murderers out there....
Rights have responsibilities; knowledge is power; possession and
availability does not mean automatic employment; discretion really is the
better part of valor; etc....
At 02:34 PM 2/12/2001, Martin Suryadarma was inspired to say:
>Ok, I would like to express my opinion on owning guns.
>
>I think owning a gun is worse that not owning one, for several reasons.

>1. Let's say I get mugged. Since I don't have a gun, I"ll just give
>him my money, end of story. I'll feel like hell, but that's it, nothing
>else. If I have a gun, I'll prolly try to take it out and defend myself.
>But he probably has a gun too, and shoot me first. OF couse I can end up
>shooting him first and become a hero, but the risk of getting shot is
>still there.
>
>2. I'm in a donut store and the store gets robbed. If I don't have a gun
>I'll just duck down, give money, and that's it. If I have a gun, I"ll
>probably try to save the day, and very possibly end up getting shot.
>
>3. I'm in a bad mood, just got fired from my work, and some punk hit my
>car and started screaming that it's my fault. If I don't have a gun, I'll
>just get really pissed and argue with him, but that's it. If I have a gun,
>being in bad mood, I'll probably take it out and blow his head off.
>
>It's true that having a gun can make you defend yourself better. But it
>also puts you in greater risk. I personally would rather lose earthly
>possesions than getting into other stuff. After all, you can always regain
>your money and ego, but not your arm, lung, or worse, your life.
Cheers!
