Symphony radio tricks

I learned this from the BiturboS4 list and thought this to be
of general interest (at least to all owners of Audis with the
Symphony radio, model year 2000 and later)...
In addition to the bass/mid/treble tone controls, there is a
hidden 8-band graphic equalizer feature. To access it, turn
off the radio. Then while holding the preset '5' button, turn
the radio back on. You will see a row of eight digits (all
set to 5 from the factory). The first digit would be blinking
at this point, and you can change the setting from 1 to 9 using
the volume control knob. Press the P.SCAN button to advance
to the next digit, and so on. Once done, turn off the radio
and then on again to hear the results.
It's unfortunate that you can't hear any sound during the adjustment
mode; it would be a lot less trial and error. I would also like to
know where the center frequency of each of the bands are... But this
is a cool feature that is not documented in the radio manual. I am
still experimenting with the settings, but I have been able to fill
in a bit more of the deep bass that the Bose system was missing, and
dialed out much of the mid bass boom. Also, I got more in the
highs where the Bose was lacking too. It sounds much better now than
it did in the factory setting.
This Symphony radio has other nifty "magic" stuff in it too, but I
don't know what they do (such as when you hold down preset '3' or '4'
when turning on the radio). I'd be interested to know if any of
you out there have figured it out.
