BR Motorsport had a couple of cases of this a few years back. Both cars
had been regularly left without being started for long periods - in one
case the owner was retired and spending the wet and rainy months in
Australia, and the other was an airline pilot working away for up to
eight months at a time. The theory at the time was coolant weepage
from the back wall - the gasket isn't very thick there and water tracks
are common. We have one club member who spends 10 months a year in
Maui and comes back for Christmas and the New Year - each month either
Roger or I will go down to start his car and heat it through properly.
