I think Huw had the best advice to keep ANY car
trouble free.  Analyze and repair SYSTEMS, don't just
replace the 1 broken part, or this WILL become a
continuing saga.  And your car will NEVER be reliable.
 I definitely DON'T agree that these cars are SO much
worse than other makes.  Most other makes never even
see the mileage/use cycles it takes to make some of
this stuff manifest itself.  I'll site door handles
just for 1 example.  In the 80's Chrysler products had
trouble with their cast alloy (white metal) door
handles.  I've seen examples with every handle on the
car broken.  If you don't necessarily believe me, go
to any FLAPS and look at some little red packages
called H.E.L.P.  They're hard to miss; it's usually an
entire aisle.
