That is of course 100% correct. I know of a guy that had to buy a cap for
his '78 Opel Commodore, this replacement was to be welded in. The strut on
his car went through the top of the dome due to rust. This happened when he
had to panic brake to avoid hitting a deer in the road.

Of course, but I would believe it would be stronger than the cap you refer
to. Get a welder with experience to do the welding for you, that will
certainly be the best.
