A6 ignition issues

Hi Dee;

Problems with removing the key or turning the key out of the "off" position
are usually caused by the interlocks on the steering wheel and the gearshift
lever on automatics. Try rocking the steering wheel back and forth while
trying to turn the key "off" and remove it or while trying to start the car.
If this doesn't work try moving the shift lever back and forth in the "park"
position to see if the shift lever interlocks are binding the ignition lock
cylinder.
Your car is designed to lock the steering wheel before the key can be
removed. Automatics are designed so the key cannot be removed unless the
transmission is in "park".
