OK folks I almost hesitate to do this(see disclaimer below for the reason)
but in the interest of sharing with my Audi Family... Here is a link to a
schematic for an ISO 9141 to RS-232 adapter. I have built this and it works
with both VAG-COM and VWTool.

!!!!DISCLAIMER!!!!!
Uwe Ross is a VERY nice guy but if you decide to use this homemade adapter
with VAG-COM _DO NOT_ bother Uwe with questions about your interface. He
will happily answer any software questions but I do not wish to be
responsible for inundating him with support calls regarding HW did not build
or test before shipping.
That said, I know this circuit works and I have used it on my parents 95 VW
Passat and my 90 Passat. I placed an rj-11 jack on the "car" end of the
adapter and kept the DB-9 connector for the "PC" side. If you don't have
electronics experience you are probably better off just ordering the one Uwe
sells (it's been tested and you can be sure it works).

89 90q only does blink codes
90 Passat talkin' to the PC.

Do you, or anyone on the list, have a shematic for creating a serial port to
car diagnostic connector? I have the vag-com demo and would like to see if
it will even function on my car before I buy it. Can you make a simple
connector and what are the pin-outs for the serial port?
TIA
