today my mom was driving her '86 5k (NA) on the turnpike, doing about 65mph,
then all the sudden she lost power, coasted to the side of the road. tried to
start the car again, but it wouldnt start. all fluids fine. any ideas?
she had it towed home, i pulled off the timing belt cover, belt was shredded,
but still there. i made a mark with chalk on the top of the belt. i
cranked the car over, the chalk mark was gone (the belt moved) so despite
the belt being shredded it still turns the pulleys. is it possible that a
few of the rubber cogs got sheared off the belt, causing it to skip a few
notches, and throw the timing off so much that the car died? and wont start
again??
please advise.
TIA
chris
