Keith... As for your first question, relating to other's experiences, I can
say that I have been there. It seems unlikely but it isn't uncommon for the
joint to go at any time after the boot has been cracked and the grease
released. You're best protection is to check the boots occasionally. In my
opinion listening for the clicking is not 100% reliable; but if you do hear
it you know you've got the problem too.
