I just put a new stereo in my 4kq, so I can give you a couple opinions. If
you're looking for really nice speakers, listen to the Boston Acoustics;
they sound fantastic. I listened to several other speakers (JL, Pioneer,
Sony Xplod, Infinity reference, Polk Audio), and I really wasn't impressed.
The only ones that sounded decent were the JL's, but they cost as much as
the Boston's which sounded superior. I ended buying, sound unheard, some
Infinity Kappa speakers (5.25" components and 6.5" 3-way). They are
normally as expensive as the Boston's, but I snagged them on a REALLY good
sale from www.thezeb.com. The speakers sound very good, but probably not
quite as good as the Boston's. But hey, for half the price they're a GREAT
deal.
I agree that you'll probably want an amp to drive 6"x9" speakers. Also,
look at getting component speakers for your front doors instead of using the
dash location; a 4" dash speaker won't do too much for you for bass output.
I believe you can fit a 6.5" in the door. I put the 5.25" in my 4kq door,
but others have fit 6.5". I put the 3-way 6.5" in the rear deck, and I'm
driving them with an inexpensive 70W/channel amp. I think the system sounds
very good, and I'm pleased with it. Good luck!
