NF vs MC vs ?? distributor differences

Heya guys,
  I just bought a late 87' 5kq with the NF code 2.3l motor.  It
takes an electronic advance distributor becuase of the knock
sensor.
  Anyhow,  I'm wondering what other dist's will work. I'm
thinking one from an Audi 80 or 90q would work since they are
both CIS-E III.   Anything else.  I tried swapping a 5-notch
disk into a trubo dist (they only have one) but it didn't work. 
It ran but timing was jumping around all OVER the place. 
  Anyhow, Will anything besides these two work or is this it?
