NAC - question for European listers

Has anybody ever worked on the rear brakes of a FWD Vauxhall Cavalier? If
so, how the h*ll do you release the auto-adjuster so that the drums come
off? I've tried looking into the drum through a bolt hole but can't see
anything that would release them.  Car is a 93 TD, belongs to my ex and she
turned up this morning asking if I'd got any brake fluid because hers had
'disappeared'. As she'd topped up the fluid about a month ago, I took a
quick look under the car - one of the rear tyres was covered in fluid and
when I pulled the wheel off I found the drum so badly corroded that it was
starting to break-up.

She then tells me that sometimes the car doesn't seem to stop properly and
the ABS light keeps coming on but 'that doesn't matter, it will just be an
electrical fault won't it?'

Speechless....
