headlight levelling (NAC)

I'm hoping that someone familiar with euro-spec lights can help me
out here. I'm helping some friends of mine install some european
lights on an Alfa Romeo, and we're trying to hook up the headlight
levellers. Why? because they're there.
Anyway, I have the switch figured out, it's just a potentiometer with
three terminals (+,-, and a variable output). The problem I have now
is the scematic I have shows two terminals on the headlight motor,
but there are in fact three.
I've tried all combinations of 12V, ground, and signal from the
switch, and nothing has worked. I even opened up the motor assembly
to see if I could figure out how it is supposed to work, but the
circuit board in there is just a little beyond my memory of
electonics. It's a Bosch unit, so I thought maybe someone here has
come across a similar setup on a newer Audi, and could shed some
light, as it were, on the subject. Thanks.
