Gang,
I opened the rear door of my 1986 5ktq today and found the rear right seat
floor to be completely flooded. Water had risen to the level of the bottom
of the door. The battery was sitting in four inches of water. My first
task was to carefully remove it and then I began to bail!
Here is the story,
The car has been sitting for three weeks parked pointed uphill on the
right side of a steep and crowned San Francisco street. We have been
receiving major rain for several weeks, and the Audi has been catching it
for me. So, water is entering somewhere, and it settled in the right rear
since that is the lowest point of the car in its present position. There
was so much water that even the right front seat floorboard is wet. A
clogged sunroof drain? The headliner and pillars seem clean and dry. The
car has always held some water in the left rear well in the trunk, so I
looked there next. Alas, the well was full and overflowing into the spare
wheel well. So, I have a full left wheel well and right side of the
interior is a swimming pool that is quickly growing things. I live in the
center of the city and have to park on the street, so these days I don't do
much work on the car myself. Should I go to a body man or a regular
mechanic? I have a good mechanic down the street. In the long term, any
advise for saving the carpet. How am I going to dry this thing? I hate not
having a garge!
Maybe Bosch makes a bilge pump for cars ;)
