Just to clarify, at some point earlier in this thread I was talking
about a non-Audi application, stating that I would have gotten the
available H4 headlights for my '87 Toyota truck in high school if I'd
known about how good H4's were.
A response was posted that indicated that it's not the fact that the
bulbs are H4 that makes the design superior, but rather that the
bulb design/type in concert with the reflector and lens design for
that bulb design/type that make for better lighting.
I then wrote that by H4 lights, I meant lights that were designed for
using H4 bulbs, and therefore should probably have the correct
reflector design and lens type for the bulbs used. I'm thinking the
part number 6054 in regards to that sealed beam headlight that
would have been replaced by the H4's I was talking about. That p/n
might be for something else, but it sounds familiar. I was just
curious if someone thought that these lights that were designed for
H4 bulbs didn't have the correct reflector and lens design for the
bulbs.
This was all in response to my post about my new H4/H3
eurolights for my 5kcstq. I also got some H4/H1 for my 4ksq,
which I haven't installed yet (and wont until much later I'm sure,
since it doesn't run and is awaiting an MC-1 transplant.
I'm familiar with the flat faced eurolights, as in Ti Kan's 4k, as well
as the early separate flat lights and grille, of which I sold a set to
Smitty. I don't think I could handle the appearance of the early
separate lights, but if I were on more of a budget, they would do the
job of lighting, either with regular sealed beams, or with some kind
of H4/H? bulbs.
I just wanted to clarify where I was headed with the original thread.
As for my 5kcstq lights, they may be adjusted too low. I have not
gone through the formal aiming procedure, as I haven't found a
satisfying-ly level enough piece of ground by a wall lately. I did do
a gross adjustment, I think on the low side, and I have not had
anyone flash me in complaint. Well, actually, there was one flash
last night, but I don't know if it was a coincidence, of it maybe the
lights were reflecting off the shiny wet road surface, or if that
makes a difference.
I'll try to get an updated pic in the registery with the eurolights.
