>I crank, it starts RIGHT up, nice and smooth. As the tach is dropping
back down to idle, it seems to fall to 1 or 2 cylinders, VERY rough
idle, pops, spits, farts etc. There is no chance of raising the idle
with the foot... I can floor it, and it just sits there and doesnt
change. It will stall out maybe 6 or 7 times, and each time restart
perfectly and go back to idling roughly. Eventually it clears out once
it warms up, but its a pain in the butt warming up a car on 1 or 2
cylinders!

Bob,
I think an 85 uses a slightly more sophisticated system, but your problems
sound just like my 81 UrQ. It was the cold air mixture "regulator" on the
rear top of the intake manifold Stands directly up and down with a 2
connector plastic clip in top). On my 81 it is the same part as on most
Rabbits and Foxes. The original would no longer maintain a proper cold
mixture. The cold start injector would fire it up just fine then idle/die
exactly as you describe till warm.
Chris Semple sent me a used one and cold starts/idles are fine now.
Just my 2 cents
Mike
