... the weight of my 1978 version of same is something like 2011 pounds ...
my book shows the '79 "Avant" weighing in at 2100. This gives a car that is
fun even with the stock 78HP CIS-FI engine ... I can't imagine what that car
would be like with a turbo ... but it is fun trying ...
The Fox has the longitudinal engine layout which give a bit more room under
the hood to fit a turbo ... plus the '77-79 Fox had some of the "goodies"
that the folks with the same version of the 1.6 wished for ... most notably
the 4-2-1 exhaust manifold/downpipe setup.
The greatest thing for fans of the Fox was the fact that VW brought it back
almost 10 years later. I chuckled when I went to the VW dealer and they
told me that it was NOTHING like the Audi Fox ... and then I popped the hood
and asked how many of the other VWs of that vintage shared the longitudinal
engine configuration ...
No, I won't be giving up seat time in the V8 or the ury to drive my old Fox
(the first "ACHTZIG" in the family), but I must say that I can certainly
understand why the owner of that car did what they did ...
