I am not sure that the 1.8t or 2.7t engines, especially the current ones,
have any inherent turbo problems.  I would speculate the majority of the
problem cases are with those who chip or otherwise modify their cars.  These
cars have such a large tuning aftermarket and clientele that invariably
you're going to hear about people who push things too far and cause failures.
