'97 A6 wagon oil consumption

I have 37k on my A6, 2.8 wagon & my 3 year warranty expired 6 months ago (3
years or 50k). Unfortunately, I have run into an oil consumption problem &
the car is requiring a quart of oil every few times I fill it up. There is
no apparent oil leak on my driveway. I am planning to go to my local service
folks & try to see if the problem can be somehow be covered by the warranty
given that I am only at 37k.

Has anyone heard of this problem on newer A6 models?
