autocheck woes on 90 200

I bought a complete Turbo Cluster from a fellow lister for $125,
coincidence being that the mileage on the new cluster is within 100 miles
of my current odo reading.  Haven't had a chance to install it yet, as
I'm south of the equator at the moment enjoying the 80 degree weather and
the 8mm bikinis.  As soon as I get back to the snow and cold I'll just
swap out the cluster and get back the boost and computer readings.  The
local boneyards I checked were asking $200 for the complete cluster. 
Still alot cheaper than the $700 quoted by the dealer for a rebuilt
board.
I have already given the defective autocheck board to an electronics guru
I know down here to see if he can figure out what the defective component
is, but he seems to think that it's a "logic short" that can only be
checked with the manufactures programmed specs....which are unobtanium.
