The short story is: the first turbo failure was not chipped at all. Then he
got a chipped ECU, and dropped in the regular chip until he was comfortable
with the new turbo, which blew up very shortly after the first. I don't
recall if he ever ran with the chip, but it was only for a very short period
of time if he did. The time between failures was on the order of a few
months, IIRC.
