Theron,
Chris Miller managed to put 255/40R17 Dunlop SP9k on 17x8 ET35 Audi/
Speedline OEM "pie plate" wheels on his '91 200q.
That done, your V8 has even wider flares, so unless your suspension is
lowered, I imagine you will have no problem putting 255s on your car.
I know Alan Miller of Redline Engineering has 245/50R16 on his V8,
IIRC- I know they were 245s, but don't remember the aspect ratio.
Yes, you're right that Audi offered a 245 width tire on the V8 in
Europe as an option. We never get all of the good stuff here in the
States.
I think as long as you're on an ET35 wheel, you're fine. I don't know
how you'll do with something more inboard, like an ET45 wheel. I have
no clearance problems whatsoever with 17x7.5 ET45 Audi/Ronal OEM
Avus wheels on my '91 with 225/45R17, and I plan on replacing the tires
eventually with 235/40R17. I will also probably buy my Dad's Oettinger
17x8 wheels in a while, so I'll have two sets of 17s and they can
easily accomodate 245s.
