DISCLAIMER: I am not usually a fan of these kind of temporary fixes, but I thought this might save a few bucks...
Last week I received a wonderful new crack in my six month old windshield.
The rock hit the glass about 1/2 inch from the bottom edge roughly centered with the driver's view.
Crack immediately moved up about 3 inches but is still not high enough to be in my line of sight. Of course, given
enough time it would eventually go straight up and obstruct my view.
What is did is get a 1/16" carbide burr to fit my dremel tool. I drilled a hole in the glass at the end of the crack.
A little patience and I got through it okay. Then I squirted some clear RTV silicone into the hole to keep the
water out. After it dried, I cleaned off the excess RTV with a razor.
The crack has stopped moving for now. Not sure about the legality or safety of this, but hey, if I can avoid
buying a new windshield until winter is over, I'll be happy.
