<Stebro exhaust! I can't wait till it gets here! I just had to share the
excitement with people who will understand....most people just think I'm
nuts.>
I remember getting mine last year, arrived just before Christmas - think it
was Chrismas eve. and I had taken off early. The UPS man shows up with the
giant box. I coulda swore it was Santa Claus. Was out in the cold garage
unpacking it Chrismas day, showing it off to my father and Bro'inlaw - my
wife thought I was crazy!
<Has anyone played around with advancing the timing on their 4kq? >
YES..did mine, it was more like 7 degrees over stock - may work out to about
12 degrees total advance BTDC. With 8:1 compression it likely won't knock
with too much advance, you'll just lose power past the optimal setting. I
didn't use a timing light even though I have one. I just made several seat
of the pants test runs 'til I found the best amount to advance.
Engine will now wind to the redline where it had trouble before.
<A tip that Ned suggested was advancing the timing on the K Jetronic cars to
12 degrees at idle. This gives about 10 hp on a stock engine. If the
engine pings under load, you will have to back it off. For Motronic cars,
you'll have to change the chip to advance the timing. High octane fuel
should be used when doing this.

I think 10 HP might be an overestimate, maybe more like 5, but you will feel
the difference.
