O2 Sensor Out - Threads Gone - Can I drive?

I can't shake this vision of the mechanic getting under there to find this
shiny nickel strapped onto the exhaust, chuckling to himself under his
breath, but only to find that it (the nickel) has fused nicely with the
exhaust...
BTW what kind of temperatures are we dealing with in front of the CAT???
