Detroit Auto Show

My wife and I just got back from the Detroit auto show. Audi had a nice
selection of cars; an S 4 wagon, an S 8, an allroad, a couple of TTs, a
Leman's R8 and the Steppenwolf that interested me. I'm not an extremely
large person (6'2", 210 lbs) but anything smaller than an A 6 gave me
claustrophobia. The A 4 based cars just don't have enough head room or
elbow room. The S 8 felt like it was the same size as a type 44 - in fact the
instrument cluster is very similar to a 5K. For the price of an S 8 I would
expect more gauges - at least a dash similar to the old 200.
The new Porsche GT was nice, and there was a continuously running video of
Walter Rohrl driving a 911 around the Nurburgring, but the noise from the
other exhibitors drown the audio - maybe it will be on speedvision next month.
Both my wife and I agreed the prettiest car of the show was a black VW Passat
with a camel colored interior. The bright trim around the windows just seem
to pick up the light just right - it was very impressive. It was a V 6 4
motion - not available in the US.
All in all, certainly worth the price of admission.
