HELP--MC1 ignition/Bentley wrong

Haudi,

1989 USA 200q, MC1 with MAC11C. VIN 004273.

The problem: intermittent stalling/hiccups/no start. Never stores a
code. When it's a no-start, the smell of raw fuel is emitted from the
exhaust pipe. Another symptom: sometimes during cranking, the starter
will nearly stall, as if the timing has suddenly advanced.

System/control pressures are right on; wires/cap/rotor/plugs are all
fairly new. The "interesting" thing is that all of the transitorized
modules shown in my Bentley (MC1, MC2, NF, 3B) have a three-wire Amp
connector and two screw-on terminals. Mine, of course, has a two-wire
Amp connector, and three spade terminals, only two of which are used.
Please help my wife regain trust in "her" car (I _usually_ drive the
4kq).

Can a dead coil cause stalling/no start but set no code? What else could
it be? Multi-function, etc.

Thanks,
James, and especially Karen and Jesse
