What do I look for on a 5000CS quattro?

used car value: find out the retail book value first.  then have a
competent, independent mechanic check the car out thoroughly.  Subtract
what they say it will cost to make the car close to 100% right from the
book value.  Even if you can fix the stuff yourself.  That is what the
car is worth.  There are a lot of old type 44's out there worth close to
nothing due to the complexity/expense of fixing what is wrong with them
properly.

You can add in the subjective value to you of owning the car if you
want, but that is speculation.
