Try your local upholstery shop. I had my headliner replaced for $250 here
in SC, and they used a foam-backed material that looks just great.

Is it hard to find vinyl headliner?
I replaced fabric on GM car: just bought this special fabric from body
shop and did it. Have you heard somebody do it on audi? I mean: is it
possible to find such fabric?
The car is very tempting but headliner problem makes it painful to take
dicision for me. Is it realy that big problem for the car worth $4,200?

I am thinking about buying Avant '89. It has very dirty headliner. Is
it
easy to take it out for cleaning not breaking it? Does it make sense?
Is
it better to clean it without taking off?

you do that and it will start to sag... best bet is to find a '84 5k
wagon
w/ the vinyl headliner and use the one out of that, or just live with
yours..
