That is what I would figure too...better ability to quickly crunch the
numbers coming off the wheel sensors quickly and improved
electromechanical parts should result in smoother and quieter operation.
I do recall when new on a type 44 since I had an almost new 1987 5ktq
avant years ago. It hammered away, but worked. I also recall the first
time I experienced ABS. Mid-80s test driving a 325 (don't hold it
against me...I didn't buy the thing). Sales dude sez take it up to 80
(mph) here (long open stretch, no traffic) and hit the brakes as hard as
you can and keep your foot down. Me: "gulp, um...okay here goes."
Stopped in a straight line at least...but lots of noise from tires and
brakes, that's for sure. Interesting first ABS experience anyway.
I seldom hear/feel it kick in on my 5ktq...only in real emergencies or
if I am a little overzealous in the wet. When it does kick in it is as
noisy and "wrong" feeling as I always remember it but it works.
