<< The people who are successful running no front bar on VW's are usually
running 800lb springs up front to minimize camber changes. On a street
car, you really can't do that, and the front bar is VERY important. Yeah,
Shine Racing makes great race cars with no front bar, but speaking from
personal experience, adding the big front bar makes a TREMENDOUS difference
on a street car, even with sport springs. I used to run Shine's rear bar
with their sport springs and the car handled well, but after putting on a
big aftermarket VW front bar, it was night-and-day better.

I run huge bars on a FWD car - 30mm front, 27mm rear. I also have wicked
springs - 400lb fronts, and 300lb rears. I also have a Jamex stress bar, and
Koni Yellows - set to "please hurt me". The car is incredible. I can
literally drive up on someone's bumper mid corner at the track - even at
speeds approaching 90mph. No problems. Lift the throttle, the tail rotates,
but gently, and not too much. Important at 100mph. I'm seen Shine's race
cars. They aren't street cars, as pointed out. What works on a race car
doesn't necessarily make a good street car. I'm very happy with the car,
having driven it in several configurations (probably one of the few people
able to claim driving the same car with 5 different suspension setups.) When
I got the car, it was stock. Then it had Koni's and Abt springs. Then it
had rear coilovers, and Abt springs in the front. Then it had full
coilovers. Now it has the bars (all three) and the coils. And, BY FAR, it
is the best with the full deal. Each progression upped the anti quite a bit.
The next change will be bushings, and larger tires. And less weight.
Pretty funny to see the eyes of an M3 driver look in the mirror as I pull up
on them in the bus stop and sweeper at Walkins Glen - at 85-90mph.... :-)
Oh yeah, and now it's got horsepower - at least, a little more than before.
Look out.
Later!
