I've driven a few S2's and as an overall package it is very good car. I
often consider buying one but having owned a UR I find its looks a little
dull and worry about the cost of replacement parts. I think they are even
more extorsionate than for the 10v motor. Having read articles though I
think the 20v engine is much more reliable, certainly a cross flow head
design makes it easier to work on. These cars are getting cheap in the UK
sub 6k GBP and as they do not draw the attention of collectors like the UR
I think prices will continue to fall. At these prices they are worth
considering.
The 200 quattros always seemed good value for money selling for sub 2K
while a similar age Ur would go for 5k plus. I think the modern equivalent
is the old shape S6 with the same engine as the S2 I saw a 93 S6
advertised for 4.4k. The avant version could be a good car for Phil to
replace his 'Red Bus' with in the future.
