Yeah it's true that they are rarely needed, but when they are needed
it's like heaven's donut! I had a run in with some candian country boys one
fine night; they tried to kill my friend and I by attempting to force us off
the road into a ditch in the middle of no where. Luckily the 80 had enough
spunk to allow me to pull the scariest u-turn of my life, a two wheeler. At
that moment one of my snow tires started to split for the shear force on it
because of the high speed u-turn. The canadians turned around and gave
chase, but the 80 kicked serious tail and got up to 100mph ASAP, their Ford
Explorer couldn't match it, thank god. Shortly after that, maybe a mile
away, the tire went fully flat. My friend and I changed that tire fast than
a pit crew in a Nascar race. The donut had 10psi in it of course, so we
road on that for 5 miles until we found our friends and a pump at a truck
stop. I nearly ate through the sidewall driving 5 miles, but man was that
donut a life saver, plus I now check the pressure twice a year, just in
case!
Cheers,
