'88 5KSQ (NA): Pinging and High Idle

My '88 5KSQ (NA) recently started a slight "pinging" on acceleration.  It 
also started idling at 1100+/- rpms.  Could these two conditions be related? 
  I know I need to pull the codes, but its cold, dark, and snowy out now, so 
I thought I would ask you and look at the Bentley.  Any BTDTs?
