Stebro & timing advance 4000 Quattro + Cam

I have done 3 significant things to improve performance in the 4KQ:
1) Stebro Exhaust
2) Advance Timing
3) Install 264 Cam
In that order.
They all gave similar incremental gains. Of these three, the timing advance
was most notable at all RPMs, and well, provides the best bang for the
buck..Free horsepower!
The Cam I just installed, and was not immediately overwhelmed by the
improvement as I expected. I think I'll need to tweek the timing again to
optimize. It does however pull strongly to the redline. I have not had a
chance to really see what it does on an open stretch of highway.
The positive surprise, is that it idles as well or better than before, and
with the Stebro it sounds like there is a V8 stuffed under the hood.

<< YES..did mine, it was more like 7 degrees over stock - may work out to
about 12 degrees total advance BTDC. With 8:1 compression it likely won't
knock
with too much advance, you'll just lose power past the optimal setting. I
didn't use a timing light even though I have one. I just made several seat
of the pants test runs 'til I found the best amount to advance.

7 degrees over stock, eh? Although the coupe is running 100% better than it
was, it still feels like there is more there, it's just not getting the full
flow. Maybe bumping up the timing will do the trick. The cam is great -
the
car pulls strong to redline, and the exhaust is wild, but it just doesn't
quite feel all there. I suppose that I could find out on the dyno, if I
could ever get in touch with this guy....is the timing worth trying? Right
now, I'm having problems with breaking the tires loose at about 4000rpm in
first gear. Wild. Idle is bad, but the car runs very smoothly at low
speeds, only idle seems to be bad. I lost low end power for sure, though.
I
used to be able to just lay into the gas in 5th on the highway, and now it
doesn't have the same punch at 3000rpm. Of course. Then again, I never hit
the rev limiter before - and I've hit it several times since. Hard to tell
the exact RPM on the digidash, you know.
Later!
