More coolant talk

Well I let the car run up to warm while idling in the driveway after
lunch. When started cold no water came out the rear pipe, the exhaust
smelled exhaust like, and the engine ran fine. As temp raised white smoke
started to come to the rear, nothing odd, but even after idling for 15
minutes the white smoke wouldn't go away. At this point there was
noticeable amount of water being flung out of the tailpipe. I unscrewed the
cap on the coolant tank and a little steam rose out. The level rose
slightly and it burped just a little right when the cap made the soda bottle
noise, whish. The idle went a little off when I removed the cap?! I didn't
smell exhaust in the expansion tank, no bubbles either. I had to run to
class so I hopped in the car and drove 20 miles to campus. I got out and
looked at the tail pipe, the tail pipe sounded like it was gurgling, yes
gurgling! It almost sounds like I have a pool in the exhaust system and
exhaust is having a hard time getting through, weird. Now the oddest part
to me is that the car feels noticeably faster, is this normal for a coolant
problem? Also the car runs as cool as it ever has, nothing out of the
ordinary there. I plan to buy a compression tester tomorrow and do some
testing.
Thanks to all, it never ends!
