sounds more like a mildly leaking master cylinder.  bleeding will clear
out bubbles - but air in the lines typically compresses when you pump
and the pedal gets harder.

We bled Brendan's brakes about seven times before the new cylinders went
in, with varying and steadily worsening results as teh MC deteriorated. 
Now his pedal is firm and confident...
