Folks:
I have been lurking here for several years, trying to find a way
to participate in the revival of the brand in the US. A discussion
with Alan De Cadenay of Sportsvision and Motorsport fame has given
me the a chance to participate in vintage racing in the US with a
couple of guys who are willing to share cost and work on getting
one of these cars.
So we are looking for a Sport Quattro. From everything I can
determine, there are very few if any in the US. Was it ever
officially imported in 84 or any time thereafter? We may have to
go to Europe and import the vehicle under the 20 year FHA
dispensation which will keep it off the road but on the track
until 2004. Meaning that we will have trailer the car which we
would probably have to do anyway.
We really want the SWB car because of its profile value for
TV/sponsorship as being the most closely identifiable model to the
Quattro domination of rally, IMSA, TransAm and other racing
profile shapes. I know that the 20 valve engine was used in this
model in Europe in 87, was the SWB ever produced after 87?
Condition and cost is clearly an issue and will be the trade off
that will require the most work but I would be interested in your
comments and indications of availability. We are at the very
beginning of putting our team together and fully expect to find
many obstacles in this plan.
I receive the digest version of the list, so please reply with a
heading that clearly identifies this request or directly. I have
been an Audi owner since my 80GL of 1973 though 6 or was it 7
different models. Currently driving a 00 A6 V8.
Thanks for any help, I will be calling the Andersens in MN who i
know have a litany of knowledge on this subject.
Colin
