Somewhere in the archives someone with a permanent Internet connection
and high bandwidth might find an article I wrote on swapping the
external fuel pump over. I recommend removing the entire assembly
from the car and doing the essential bits on a bench.
One of the points this article made (couple of years ago at least)
was that Audi/Bosch were shipping pumps with larger inlet ports -
I don't think it's an engine code issue, but rather an issue of date
of pump manufacture. At one point I had two Bosch pumps in my hand
with identical Bosch and Audi numbers on them but different inlet
port diameters.
