Home from the Peak!!!

Thanks for coming all the way from Iowa, Steve. It's difficult enough to
convince locals to travel between Denver and Colorado Springs and vice-versa
for a get-together, but Iowa ... that's hardcore.
Also, thanks to Javad Shadzi (CA) and Jeremy Williams (OR), who came from
far away as well, and to the all the locals who brought out a neat mix of
Audi's - a S4 biturbo, a V8 5speed, a 200, several 4000's, a few A4's, a '84
UrQ, a TT (but none of the ubiquitous Colorado UrS cars!)

Even with the sparse entries at the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, the crazy weather
and fans made it interesting. Intense sun & warmth followed by winds, rain,
& snow flurries, fans standing just feet from the cars on the outside of
corners getting splattered with dirt and occasionally stones, Per Eklund's
awesome 2.0-litre 750hp Saab (with punctured rear tire noless), the sidecar
maniacs, the 900hp unlimited Suzuki that was clocked at 132mph, the semi,
etc!

But alas - no Audi's in the race!! I know plenty participate in the Mt
Washington and Virginia City Hillclimbs, so what's the deal with Pikes Peak
- location, altitude, road surface, entry fee, scary as hell?

Anyone know where I can find the results for the Virginia City & Mt.
Washington races on the Net?

(btw Steve - caught an open stretch of highway on the way home and was able
to hit 6500rpm in 5th gear, but at the low altitude of 6000ft! Sure would be
nice to have a 6spd tranny with a locking center diff and a tall top gear.)
