For the cam knock ...

a) Check the distributor.  It's a potent source of knocks.

b) Check the cam caps.  You DO realise they're not symmetrical and they go in with the cast script on top pointing odd ways?  If you've put one or two (usually the back ones) in the wrong way round, they've probably cracked and the head is scrap.
