5ktq problems (need climate control fan)

Heya everyone,
Just picked up a new toy. A 5ktq that I helped build up a few
years ago. Now I own it. :-)
But it has a few issues. Needs upper strut bearings for the
Coilovers (has ANYONE gotten a solution to this besides the
2-bennett brothers overpriced unit???
Also needs some standard TLC but the big problem for the 2k
mile roadtrip home is the climate control unit.
The fan doesnt run. Pulled the codes for it and per Bently
"run test code in mode 10, if value less than 19 (I got 00 for
no fault) then go to here......press HIGH fan speed. If fan
doesn't turn on bad a AC controller. Replace controller. I did
that, no luck. And the controller works fine in my 5kq. Soooo
I would think that the FAn Speed controller would be the
fault. But the Bently has no easy way to test this. THere is a
method using the VAG 1351 but nothing simple.
So the question is, how can I verify if its the Fan Speed
Controller or the motor itself. ANd secondly if its the Fan
Speed controller can I jumper two terminals to get say a medium
fan speed for the trip home. I know a friend of mine did this
once but I dont want to just start jumpering terminals. Anyhow,
I'm road tripping and plan to next check out Huws page and SJM's
page. But thought I'd drop a note.
One last issue. The Red wire with blue stripe that sends
power to the Stereo, Cig Lighter, map lights, etc is fried. It
works for the map lights, dome lights, etc. But the circuit for
the radio and Cig ligher doesn't work. Any idea where the first
connector is for this where it attaches to the main track???
Says its connector "F" which is a welded connection behind the
instrument panel. Oh great, there are 500 wires back there.
  Thanks guys,
    Todd
