Thanks to all who sent suggestions/advice (and error codes) on the
INTERMITTENT #@*&^! ! ! problem I've been having with my '88 80 Quattro.
The check engine light was elusive until yesterday, when I drove the car
after flushing/replacing all my brake fluid. I was able to get the
computer to trip, and it read out a code matching "O2 Sensor". So I've
ordered another O2 sensor from Blau. Yay! I'm convinced this will do the
trick.
Now I have a question about brake bleeding. 1) in the Bentley, step 1
indicates to bleed the master cylinder first. How critical is this?
Yesterday I bled the master for the first time, ever. I had never heard
this was an important step and so had only been bleeding the four brake
cylinders. 2) Do you or do you not clamp off the hose to the clutch
(slave?) when you use a Power Bleeder to bleed the system (i.e., put the
entire brake system under pressure, 20 psi)? I've had people tell me to
make sure and clamp this hose off, but yesterday, after having a
mechanical engineer friend review the steps in the Bentley for me, he
determined I didn't need to clamp this hose and so I didn't. I can see no
difference to the procedure. Can you?
RE: anti-sway bar: I have a Blaufergnugen bar that a friend helped me
install a few weeks ago. I seem to have lost the instructions which
indicate which bolts to torque. Does anyone know which bolts take which
torque? I would like to tighten the bar before my next track event in a
week.
Thanks again for all your support and help in keeping my 80Q out on the
track -- the loooooone Quat of the Alfa club &:-).
