There are two generations of Audi RF transmitters.  The "old" one
is the one used in the 96 models (and 95.5 S6).  The "new" one is
the one in all 97 and later models.  Your swap is just a change
within the same generation so there is no change in range.

Oh and yes, the alarm controller part numbers are different
between the A4 and A6 models, and there has been a change
each depending on the VIN.
